I see what you’re saying, but I don’t think I’m reading tea leaves. I’m making an observation on how blockchain is being used in the real world.

While it is true that the first use case of blockchain was bitcoin, that doesn’t seem to be how it is being implemented on a larger scale. I noted the IBM-Maersk partnership above and more recently, Walmart announced that it is deploying blockchain to improve food safety through traceability. To the best of my knowledge, these do not involve proof of work. There are many other applications in the works.
