I see what your saying, but I don’t believe I’m reading tea leaves. I’m making observations. While it is true that the first application of blockchain is bitcoin, the technology is being used in very different ways that, to the best of my knowledge, don’t require proof of work.

I noted the IBM-Maersk partnership above and, since the article came out, Walmart announced that it is using blockchain to improve food safety. There are many similar initiatives as well.
